TEAM LEAD, HOG BARN - BREEDING / FARROWING
Zhoda, MB - Rural areas – Full Time Position (18 Month Term)
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Barn Manager, the Team Lead is responsible for all activities that occur in the breeding/ farrowing areas, as well as leading and supervising staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages Occupational Health and Safety
- Works with Barn Manager to implement programs set out by MLAF to achieve specific production goals
- Manages animal health and welfare, Biosecurity, vaccinations and reports any health concerns to the Barn Manager
- Detect heat patterns; carry out natural or artificial insemination
- Follow and implement breeding and farrowing group work plans
- Plan weanling schedules along with the Barn Manager. Select sows to be weaned and prepare and record weanling shipping numbers
- Monitor ventilation and heat settings throughout the barn areas
- Accurately record and analyze data
- Monitor inventory of medication and supplies and place orders through Barn Manager
- Ensure breeding and farrowing areas are clean and that washing and disinfecting procedures are followed
- Report any unusual problem areas to Barn Manager
- Implement MLAF sow and piglet feeding programs
- Monitor hog body conditions and animal comfort
- Follow culling criteria and implement along with Barn Manager
- Supervise and evaluate staff
- General maintenance
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of one year of experience in a swine production role is required
- Experience in a supervisory/management role with the ability to lead a team is preferred
- Grade 12 diploma is preferred
- Experience/ability to lead a team
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously

- Weekend and holiday hours are required on a rotational basis
- A valid driver’s license is required as the successful candidate must have the ability to get to and from work located in a rural area
