The Opportunity:
The Automation Lead will be the technical support for Corporate Engineering Automation related projects. The Automation lead will ensure all equipment meets or exceeds MLF defined Automation and controls standards as defined in the O Addendum series. Equipment adherence is achieved by supporting Corporate Engineering Program Managers, Equipment OEMs and Integrators during capital project assessment, design, procurement, testing, installation and commissioning phases. Ensuring equipment and interfaces align with MLF IS policies is achieved by interfacing with MLF IS Infrastructure, Manufacturing Information Systems and Security groups. This position will be centrally based out of Mississauga, Ontario, supporting multiple sites in Canada and U.S. Travel is periodically required for design reviews, FATs, installation, commissioning and start up activities. The position will require the management of contract resources and budgets as required.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Maintain and manage Automation controls standards and specifications
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure approved components and hardware meet highest requirements for Safety, FSQA, Operations and Asset Reliability.
- Review and approve OEM/Integrator controls and electrical submissions.
- Identification and benchmarking of new technology.
- Support IS projects as required for equipment integration design, testing and commissioning.
- Ensure Automation projects are thoroughly documented as per Capital Playbook requirements.
- Manage contract resources during capital project life cycle
- Identify areas of opportunity and improvement through Automation
What You’ll Bring:
Working Knowledge of:
- North American and European electrical schematics
- Advanced PLC programming in Rockwell platforms, Siemens is an asset
- Fanuc robotics
- Ethernet IP networking relative to CPWE architecture and requirements
- MES/SCADA systems
- Process control systems
- CSA/NFPA Safety and Machine guarding standards
People:
- Ability to work with team members and business functional groups to provide collaborative and positive results.
- Being a self-driven motivated individual who can also work independently to achieve business unit goals
- Solid fundamentals managing project budgets and schedules
Experience and Education:
- 10+ years of technical experience in an automated manufacturing environment
- Engineering degree or College 3-4 year program in Electrical or Electromechanical.
- Professional Engineering designation not required.
- Advanced PLC/HMI programming skills including Rockwell platforms. (other platforms considered asset)
- Knowledge of robotic systems and integration, Fanuc preferred
- Ethernet IP networking of control systems based on CPWE standard
- Experience with SCADA/MES platforms
- Knowledge of CSA/NFPA machine guarding standards
- Working knowledge of North American and European electrical schematics
