Marketing Director - Charcuterie & Toppings

 The Opportunity:

As one of the only CPG companies to be headquartered in Canada, a marketing career at Maple Leaf offers you a unique opportunity to develop strategies and act as the general manager of a business, rather than work at a satellite office.  The Director owns developing and executing growth strategies anchored in deep understanding of 3Cs (Consumer/Customer, Competitors, Company) and 4 Ps (Product, Price, Promotion, Placement) inclusive of a 1–3-year innovation pipeline ​. They will effectively partner with experts in our Revenue Growth Management and our Brand team to lead the growth agenda for their category.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Leadership of the Maple Leaf growth agenda of Charcuterie and Toppings on our mission become the top choice in Italian Specialty Deli
  • The Director is accountable for maximizing total category performance across Retail/Foodservice and Canada/US.
  • Develop the strategic direction, business performance, market share expansion and execution of the category marketing plans across all channels.
  • Develop the annual objectives and operating plan, prioritization of supply, innovation agenda and P&L targets for all categories within your portfolio.
  • Drives the 4Ps (Product, Price, Promotion, Placement) to maximize growth, profitability and market share.
  • Accountability to ensure the product portfolio meets consumer and customer needs while delivering margin, volume and profit expectations
  • Lead innovation for new or improved product introductions.
  • General manager mindset and accountability to own the business rooted in a deep understanding of SKU portfolio, COGS, margins, manufacturing capabilities and capacity
  • Assess and recommend direction on private label bids with support from finance
  • Review recommendations made by our Revenue Growth Manager team make decisions on off-strategy pricing requests

What You’ll Bring:

  • People Leadership – Ability to identify, develop and coach talent to optimal performance levels in pursuit of individual and team goals.
  • Commercial Acumen, Budget Planning & P&L Management – Solid understanding of key drivers of the budget process and P&Ls with ability to recommend changes required to move the business forward.
  • Business Understanding and Insights – Demonstrates the ability to understand, manipulate and draw conclusions from internal & external data sources.  Demonstrates ability to build, track, and course correct business plans to achieve targets.
  • Business Reviews & Plans – Leads the annual business reviews & planning process assessing current business.  Plans include objectives and strategies for each opportunity, spending levels, pricing/costing assumptions, volume/consumption builds, risk analysis, and an integrated marketing calendar.
  • Sales Knowledge & Connectivity – Demonstrates understanding of customer strategies and motivations and applies to marketing planning process & initiative execution.
  • Strategic Leadership & Business Planning – Demonstrates big picture thinking with an ability to clearly articulate a strategic direction, justified with sound fact-based rationale. Sells ideas and recommendations through to management convincingly.
  • Marketing Communications – To engage on and contribute meaningfully to development of disruptive and breakthrough marketing campaigns and creative.
  • Business Communications – Able to distill complex problems and communicate succinctly so the team can move with pace and confidence
  • Self-starter and agile – Must be proactive and performance driven with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Requires the ability to adapt easily to changing market dynamics.
