Technical Accounting Manager – Pork Complex

 The Opportunity:

Be a part of the preparing for the spin-off of Maple Leaf Foods’ Pork Complex business – the new Canda Packers! This roll will focus in the near term on the completion of cave out financial statements and spin-off readiness, and will transition after the spin-off to being responsible for providing technical accounting support as part of the Canada Packers’ finance team.

Until the transaction closes in 2025, this role will be reporting to the assistant controller, and will be responsible for ensuring the correct application of IFRS in the Pork Complex Carve out financial statements. This includes preparation and review of technical accounting memos, carve out adjustments and reconciliations, financial statement notes, and other ad-hoc asks.

On a longer term basis this this role will be responsible for accounting policies, day-to-day accounting for more complex items such as stock compensation, financial instruments, and biological assets, and other ad-hoc tasks within the financial reporting team as required.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Participate in the completion of carve out financial information for a spin-out
  • Assessment and recommendation of appropriate accounting treatment for complex and unusual transactions, including but not limited to post retirement benefits, financial instruments, business combinations, biological assets and share-based compensation;
  • Implementation of changes in accounting standards as applicable;
  • Assistance with preparation and review of annual and quarterly financial statements;
  • Oversight of annual impairment testing;
  • Responsibility for pension accounting and oversight of the preparation audited financial statements for the plans;
  • Updates and review of accounting policies, including preparation of new policies as required;
  • Responsibility for providing company-wide training on accounting and other relevant topics;

What You’ll Bring:

  • CPA, CA designation;
  • Minimum 7-8 years of working experience in technical accounting and external reporting
  • Minimum 4-5 years in a people leadership position
  • Experience with public company reporting;
  • A strong knowledge of IFRS;
  • Pension accounting experience is an asset;
  • Financial instruments experience is an asset
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
