Sourcing Manager - Pork

 The Opportunity:

As the Sourcing Manager, Pork reporting to the Director, Raw Meats Procurement, we are seeking a strategic and results-driven Pork Procurement Leader to join our team. This role is responsible for sourcing raw pork to maximize fill rates for prepared meats plants while minimizing overall input costs. The successful candidate will provide leadership in supplier development, negotiations, and contract management, and will optimize hog utilization in partnership with cross-functional teams.  The role will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders including supply planning, production planning, warehousing, transportation, finance, marketing, and operations to ensure executional excellence of product aligning to our service requirements. 

You will be responsible for executing the procurement strategy and identifying new value-added initiatives to support the organization and provide procurement expertise and continuous improvement through data driven recommendations. This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic and evolving team as we expand sourcing support to increase company spend under management and deliver a value-driven, results oriented service to our internal and external stakeholders. The Procurement team uses industry leading sourcing processes and mature e-procurement tools to deliver significant value for the company. The successful candidate can expect to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment and have immediate opportunities to lead challenging strategic procurement initiatives.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Strategy & Market Intelligence: Develop and implement pork purchasing strategies to meet production needs, drive cost savings, and adapt to changing market conditions. Leverage third-party market data for buying patterns and budget projections.
  • Excess Management: Collaborate with production planning and primary suppliers to manage excess inventory and ensure zero food waste.
  • Optimization: Work with marketing, supply planning, and plant teams to optimize pork raw material utilization and deboning capabilities.
  • PO Integrity: Ensure accuracy and visibility of purchase orders, manage supplier relationships, resolve issues, and communicate changes in demand, delivery, or quality.
  • KPI Reporting & Corrective Action: Enhance supplier scorecards, drive value-added conversations, and develop corrective action plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for automation and process streamlining, applying Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Talent Management: Lead and develop a diverse team, focusing on coaching and competency development.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related fields is preferred.
  • 5+ of experience in the raw pork or beef markets in Procurement, Supply Chain Planning, Operations, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong negotiating and analytical skills along with experience in contract and risk management.
  • Technological proficiency, specifically SAP (ECP, IBP), MS Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • A background in strategic sourcing with financial accountability
  • Ability to collaborate and lead in a diverse team environment.
  • Interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities are required.
