The Opportunity:

The Transportation Analyst is responsible for providing analytical and statistical reporting support for Maple Leaf Foods (MLF) Transportation activities.   Activities include monthly KPI’s, variance analysis, scorecard maintenance, carrier selection / negotiation / performance measurement and cost savings projects. Working closely with Transportation leaders, this role recommends freight and distribution alternatives to provide efficient solutions for the MLF Distribution network, while optimizing customer service levels.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Build Robust Relationships: Build strong working relationships with transportation team to draw information and knowledge
  • Secure Transportation capacity for all land freight of fresh and frozen pork
  • Monitor carrier performance and ensure key service indicators are being met
  • Identify variances, opportunities, and issues and lead the execution of cost savings initiatives.
  • Set up / facilitate regular business review meetings with main freight carriers
  • Collaborate with key Transportation personnel in the development and execution of 3rd party export carriers’ RFP/Q’s
  • Collaborate with the Transportation team to develop 3rd party carrier guides and SOP’s
  • Provide analytical support for budgeting process
  • Execute and maintain 3rd party export carriers’ score cards.
  • Assist with monthly variance and trend analysis
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Accurate and timely KPI reporting and scorecards
  • Successful 3rd party carrier RFP
  • Accurate freight rate data base
  • Collaborative relationships and processes with all Distribution and 3rd party service providers
  • Develop recommendations for continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong knowledge of distribution, transportation, and freight costing
  • 3-5 years of Logistics experience
  • Knowledge of US Freight Customs, USDA Border cross process would be an asset
  • Professional designation (e.g.: CITT, P.Log) or other related courses would be an asset
  • Demonstrated strong team player
  • Strongly aligned with Maple Leaf Values
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional analytical skills with ability to provide insight
  • Strong problem solving, prioritization & organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects with strict timelines
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow for informal and formal networking across the organization
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Functional capability with SAP, BEX, BI is an asset
