Maple Leaf Foods at 100 McLeod Avenue, in Saskatoon, is a boutique sausage facility. As a team we create great tasting quality products and are looking for more great people like YOU! 

We are currently accepting applications for our Journeyman Carpenter position.

In a unionized environment, the Maintenance Department at Maple Leaf Foods operates with a team-based approach maintaining optimal plant performance. As part of Maple Leaf Foods’ Maintenance team, the Carpenter will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and constructing structural and architectural components within the facility to support daily production and plant operations. Maple Leaf Foods conducts an annual wage survey to ensure our rates remain competitive. The ability to work rotating floating shifts, as well as weekends, is required for this role.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Construct, install, repair, and maintain wood, metal, and other structural components in accordance with facility requirements
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, and written/verbal instructions
  • Complete finish carpentry tasks such as installing doors, frames, drywall, cabinetry, and trim
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on facility structures, including walls, ceilings, flooring, and plant fixture
  •  Ensure repairs and construction meet company standards and local building codes
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and effectively
  • Collaborate with other trades and departments to support building improvements and maintenance projects
  • Perform work orders and report labor and material usage in the computerized maintenance system
  • Adhere to all plant Food Safety, GMP, WHMIS, HACCP, and Health & Safety policies
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

What You’ll Bring:

  • Must hold a valid Journeyperson Certificate in Carpentry 
  • 1 – 3 years of carpentry experience in a commercial, industrial and manufacturing setting is an asset
  • Strong understanding of carpentry practices, building materials, and construction technique
  • Experience with framing, drywall, flooring, and finish work
  • Familiarity with door hardware, fire-rated assemblies, and facility maintenance
  • Ability to read technical drawings and accurately measure, cut, and assemble materials
  • Comfortable using a variety of carpentry tools and power equipment
  • Basic computer skills for entering work orders and tracking inventory
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a proactive attitude
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  •  Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
