Compensation Manager

The Opportunity:

Reporting directly to the Director of Total Rewards, you'll wield your expertise to craft and implement compelling executive and employee compensation strategies and programs spanning Canada and the US, all intricately woven into our overarching Total Rewards framework and organizational objectives.

Leading a team of compensation specialists, this role isn't just about numbers; it's about providing expert consultation and to effectively reward and motivate our talented workforce.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Accountable administration of our annual executive compensation programs, including our long-term equity incentive plan which involves system setup, management, and communication of our equity awards.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders and HR colleagues, offering sage counsel on all matters pertaining to compensation.
  • Prepare meticulous compensation data reporting for proxy disclosures and senior leaders.
  • Oversee external benchmarking initiatives and our job evaluation process to ensure plan and program competitiveness.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of compensation and recognition program design, practices, policies, and competitive industry trends using those insights to provide input and expertise into potential plan changes.
  • Champion fairness and equity by overseeing Pay Equity reviews across unionized and non-unionized groups in Ontario and Quebec to ensure continued compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Roll out our suite of compensation and recognition plans and programs with precision, covering everything from pay policy formulation to incentive plan execution and actively engaging in various compensation-related projects.
  • Own the relationship with vendors to ensure smooth operations and resolve any service-related issues.
  • Empower our leaders, HR partners, and team members through the development and delivery of compensation education and training.
  • Develop strong relationships with HR Business Partners to ensure appropriate solutions in support of client group requirements.
  • Provide analytical support and counsel, cost analyses and subsequent data-driven recommendations on compensation related events including hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, Finance and IS to administer and maintain accurate compensation data in HRIS and/or other tools/applications.
  • Oversee and audit the ongoing execution of compensation and recognition programs according to company policies and statutory compliance, including regular reporting to finance and audit teams.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators tailored to the compensation and total rewards arena, setting the stage for informed decision-making.

  • Adept at managing multiple projects with finesse.

  • A guardian of information integrity, committed to handling data with utmost accuracy, security, and confidentiality.
  • A bias for continuous improvement, harnessing the power of data and technology to drive superior outcomes.

Required Experience & Education

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • On the path towards CCP or CHRP designation if not already acquired.
  • Bring at least 5 years of hands-on experience in Compensation to the table, with a minimum of 2 years at the managerial level.
  • Command advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Long term equity plan administration experience.
  • Familiarity with SAP / Success Factors is an asset.
