Maintenance Supervisor, Night Shift

 The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the management, development and efficient operation of the Maintenance, Planning and Rendering Operations.
The Maintenance Supervisor is an experienced Maintenance leader with at least 3 years of experience in a Maintenance supervisory or leadership role applying proven Maintenance best practices in a fast pace industrial environment.  A technical diploma/ticket is required. The Supervisor is familiar with using a CMMS system. The Supervisor follows company policies, standards, and guidelines as they apply to all activities.
The Maintenance Supervisor has strong leadership and communication skills, works well in a team environment, is responsible and is open to change. The person is results oriented and quality driven. 
The Maintenance Supervisor promotes and maintains a safe working environment through compliance with MLF’s Health and Safety Program. This includes Food Safety and Environmental compliance.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Daily supervision of the Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Team Members including electricians, millwrights, rendering and maintenance support staff.
  • Motivate team members to high performance, complete payroll, vacation schedules, and work schedules and assignments.
  • Meet Key Performance Indicators, Reduce Downtime, Improve Wrench Time, Maintenance Excellence Index, maintain Maintenance Budget, Complete Safety Scorecards.
  • Oversee the maintenance and rendering staff day to day equipment and process challenges
  • Develop, implement preventative/predictive maintenance program.
  • Optimize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Order required parts and supplies, monitor, and maintain department parts stock levels.
  • Maintain and monitor outside service contracts.
  • Track PMs and work orders and ensure completion.
  • Schedule and coordinate projects, with the Planner, schedule plant inspections.
  • Oversee various contractors as services are required.
  • Assess team progress with plant work order results and team progress.
  • Enforce HACCP and CFIA regulations and pant GMP’s.
  • Enforce safe work practices and company policy.
  • Ensure constant use of housekeeping practices, satisfying all safety requirements.
  • Plan and hold safety and policy meetings, investigate accidents and incidents.
  • Respond to Operations, FSQA and H&S concerns/inquiries.
  • Liaise with outside services (sales/technical services) as required.
  • Continuously strive for top performance from staff and equipment.
  • Research processes and equipment to help continuously improve operations.
  • Ensure training is up to date for employees and data collection.
  • Lead shift handover meetings.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum 3 years supervision experience in a fast paced, unionized environment.
  • Electrical, Millwright or Mechanical or equivalent tickets (Red Seal preferred).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, adjusting, or repair new or existing equipment.
  • Familiar with health & safety regulations. 
  • Familiarity with CFIA statutory regulations(an asset).
  • Preventative and proactive maintenance strategy expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of labour relations and good oral and written communication.
