The Opportunity

 Working closely with the most senior level of Maple Leaf Foods, the Director, Investor Relations will lead, develop and execute the company’s IR program.  The individual will be the key liaison between the company and the investment community on issues affecting the Company’s overall valuation and investment thesis.  As a key member of the management team they will have frequent interface with key executives, including the Chief Executive Officer.
The Director, Investor Relations will develop an impactful strategy to support and steward the company’s existing investor, stakeholder and analyst base.  They will develop and direct a proactive investor relations plan including a comprehensive calendar of events. 
Their responsibilities include developing the company’s key messages and narrative during quarter ends, and for other events such as Investor Day.  The Director will apply their exceptional analytical skill to understand and explain complex financial issues.  Working collaboratively with a wide range of internal stakeholders, they will lead a robust process to quickly develop a clear and compelling story for the investor community.

The successful candidate will have established success in bringing fresh ideas to drive impact, embracing change, and innovation.  The role requires a data-driven, solutions-oriented, decision-maker with an ability to understand broader industry dynamics and synthesize information from multiple sources, in order to build compelling narratives.  This will be a commercially- and operationally-savvy individual, with the ability to identify and address the key business issues at hand and the drive to achieve results, and will challenge and question, with an unwillingness to accept the status quo. 
Results orientation
The successful candidate must be decisive and action-oriented, with a record of driving results, but in a collaborative manner. This will have been demonstrated through the ability to generate innovative solutions and successfully manage operations in competitive business environments.  This person will be open and willing to try different, creative ways to deal with business challenges and opportunities, understanding that positive outcomes are most desired (rather than a dogmatic process orientation).  Additionally, this person will actively seek and implement new and better ways of driving tirelessly for the desired business outcome. 
Collaboration and influencing skills
The successful candidate must have the interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with senior executives across an organization.  A collaborative attitude is essential to help position the management team well with the investment community. This person should work effectively in cross-functional teams and be comfortable interacting regularly and maintaining positive working relationships with seasoned investment professionals external to an organization.  Specifically, the candidate must have successfully engaged, aligned and enabled an executive team of a major corporation to develop a powerful investor relations program and strategy

What you will bring:

  • Brings a diverse perspective that complements the skills, strengths and opportunities of the team​
  • 10+ years of experience in investor relations and/or across the broader Finance function
  • MBA, CFA and/or CPA designation
  • Experience managing investor relations for a listed company of scale
  • Experience in buy-or-sell-side roles in capital markets, equity research, and/or investment management
  • In-depth knowledge of the food or consumer products industry in Canada
  • Proven ability to shape the narrative of a company with analysts and/or investors
  • Experience managing other professionals, ideally within Investor Relations
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills and financial acumen
  • Alignment with the Maple Leaf Foods’ Leadership Values
