Health & Safety/Kinesiology Student

POSITION(S):                     Health & Safety Student (Casual, Full-Time)
LOCATION:                        90 - 10th Avenue Hanover, Ontario
STARTING WAGE:            $20.84/hour
 
Now is a very exciting time to join the Maple Leaf family. Maple Leaf Foods is located in Hanover, ON and presently employees approximately 140 employees between our farms and hatchery. Our work includes everything from production and gathering of hatching eggs to incubation and delivery of chicks to customers across the province.  It is important that you understand that we are an agricultural facility and therefore you will be handling live animals.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday with a fluctuating start time. The primary responsibility of the student position will be to complete Job Safety Analysis/Risk Assessments to determine the severity and probability of injury or loss while performing a task. Maple Leaf Foods supplies all necessary safety equipment at no cost to the employee.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
 The successful applicants will be responsible for:
 
  • Conducting JSAs/risk assessments for hatchery and farms operations
  • Ensure written JSAs/risk assessments are prepared and/or updated for all critical tasks
  • Ensure written safe work procedures are in place
  • Inform stakeholders affected by JSAs/risk assessments if changes occur
  • Ensure OHS training is provided for all affected workers
  • Maintain JSA/risk assessment documents, as well as OHS training records
  • Prepare, observe, discuss, record and follow up on JSA/risk assessments
  • Organizing and coordinate file naming and sequencing
  • Cross reference SOP and JSA alignment
  • Other duties as assigned
 
REQUIRED SKILL AND QUALIFICATIONS:
 To be successful in this position, you must:
 
  • Be working towards a Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Health and Safety, Kinesiology or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in ergonomics and assessments
  • Able to work in a hot/wet/humid environment
  • Have the desire to learn and commitment to safe work practices
  • Able to work varying and flexible hours until job is complete (Fluctuating start times to see all parts of operations)
  • Have good communication and business relationship building skills for interaction with stakeholders
  • Adhere to HACCP, Biosecurity & Animal Welfare requirements (Training will be provided)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and analytical skills
  • Computer skills
  • Proven initiative – balance priorities while exercising timely and good judgement in day-to-day business decisions
  • Ability to confidently conduct training
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively
  • Responsible, conscientious and detailed work ethic
