The Opportunity

 An important enabler to achieving excellence in product quality and cost is the availability and use of accurate and detailed product specifications, recipes and BOMs.  Maple Leaf Foods has made significant investments in SAP ERP systems, including the Recipe Development (RD) and Quality Management (QM) modules. The SAP RD database provides a comprehensive technical product data repository which includes quality, manufacturing, product development, packaging, process technology, auditing SOPs and regulatory information.
As a member of a dedicated project team formed to complete the work of building product recipes and specifications, this role is responsible for documenting product recipes and product specifications based on current processing information and legacy documentation. The role will work closely with Product Development, Manufacturing Operations and Food Safety/Quality team members to ensure SAP RD system information is accurate and complete. The scope of work includes recipes/specifications and quality measures for Fresh Poultry and Plant Protein businesses in Canada and the USA.
This is an excellent career development opportunity for an individual with strong analytical abilities, good communication skills and an interest in learning about food industry business processes in quality, manufacturing and product lifecycle management (PLM).

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do: 

  • Validation and Mapping of manufacturing processes
  • Research and source raw material information from legacy sources
  • Analysis of Bill of Materials (BOM) and legacy documentation
  • Creation of Recipes and Specifications using SAP Recipe Development based on manufacturing process and BOM
  • Conduct validation sessions with plant Product Development, Quality Assurance and Operations personnel
  • Project management including tracking and communicating scope and completion rates
  • Leveraging the report capability of SAP RD database to find opportunities for standardization, detect potential errors of consistency and missing data.
  • Support client functions in the use of SAP RD report capability

What you will bring:

  • University undergraduate degree program preferably in Science, Food Science or Engineering
  • Exceptional problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills. Process thinking capability is a must
  • Strong computer skills including the use of SAP (ECP and RD) as well as Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills in-person, by voice, chat and email
  • Candidate must be results oriented and able to work as a contributing/cooperating team member
