Technical Services, Supervisor - Brandon

The Opportunity:
Provide leadership and direction to the hog grading function and grading team in our Brandon facility. Liaison with Maple Leaf personnel, specifically in the Brandon facility, and develop working relationships with producers and their staff.  Supervise and coordinate cut-out, meat quality evaluation and R & D technical projects. Provide back-up support to receiving barn, hog booking process and daily risk management services.

A snap shot of some of the exciting things you will do:
  • Active supervision and management of the hog grading function in Brandon
  • Identify and communicate grading metrics, issues and opportunities to the Procurement Leadership team
  • Represent Maple Leaf Pork at MB Hog Grading Meetings and maintain strong working relationship with MHGI auditor
  • Liaise with operations on tattoo related issues which affect tattoo performance
  • Provide leadership and coordination of all Maple Leaf Pork research cut-out, meat quality evaluations and R & D technical projects
  • Provide detailed analysis and reporting for R & D projects and hog grading activities
  • Provide vacation coverage to all barn staff employees
  • Ability to work both shifts as duties require
  • Interact with producers, graders, truckers, plant employees and government veterinarians to optimize the value of product through the assembly, receiving and slaughter processes
  • Assist Procurement Service Representatives and Manager on day to day procurement activities

What you will bring:
  • Degree in Agriculture or Business is preferred
  • Experience working within a unionized environment would be an asset
  • Strong professional, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self- motivated
  • Detailed analytical skills, ability to learn and use advanced 6-sigma tools
  • Leadership, flexibility and organizational skills
  • Excellent knowledge of computers with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, and ability to analyze data, solve problems, and be proactive
  • Must be able to deal effectively with people
