Director, Six Sigma

 The Opportunity:

The Director of Six Sigma partners directly with key functional leaders across MLF Commercial & Operations to help identify critical business needs and associated action plans, ensuring the use of Lean-Six Sigma methodology and tools to drive continuous improvement.  They will manage a team of Black Belts that will be allocated across MLF manufacturing plants, supply chain, and other functions, fostering a performance driven and continuous improvement culture.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Opportunity Identification: Assist with the identification and quantification of major opportunity areas, including the re-application of learning across MLF.
  • Six Sigma: Support manufacturing leaders in Waste Elimination through application of Six Sigma tools/methodology.  Conduct business case and risk analysis as required.
  • Continuous Improvement (CI): Provide CI Project Management support utilizing DMADV / PDCA framework. Facilitate the development and execution of a CI plan including project pipeline, driving the overall progress and status of the plan. Facilitate Continuous Improvement process with cross-functional site teams including setting of annual improvement targets.
  • Methodology: Ensure cross-functional teams are utilizing the appropriate improvement methodology (Six Sigma, Lean, OpEx tools) including training on tools, application support as required.
  • Coaching: Identify, coach, and develop the next generation of coaches and Black Belts in the organization, leveraging expertise in Six Sigma and Lean tools and methods (including Kaizens), on both technical and change management. Coach deployed Black Belts across the network on use of Six Sigma, Operations Excellence and Lean methodologies. Also coach other functional leaders on using data-driven decision making, sampling, risk analysis, testing and inspection frequencies.
  • Training Initiatives: Create, lead or significantly contribute to formal training programs for a wide range of audiences, including Black Belt, Green Belt, White Belt and Employee Engagement training. Assess, design and execute training and development initiatives required to certify future Black Belts.

What You’ll Bring:

  • University degree (BSc. Engineering or Operations Management).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification or Lean Implementation Certification.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of Continuous Improvement experience in manufacturing operations or supply chain.
  • Experience leading a professional services organization
  • Expertise in manufacturing CI project leadership and coaching others applying core CI Lean-Six Sigma tools.   
  • Success leading significant cultural change and complex projects through influence and change management.
  • Demonstrated followership and inspiring teams to deliver results against organizational priorities.
  • Strong leadership, influence and cross-functional collaboration to develop and coach individuals and teams.
  • Deep understanding of operations and the manufacturing process at the line and equipment level.
  • Solution-provider with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Lean-Six Sigma tools (Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, Gemba, DMAIC, PDCA) to identify and eliminate waste and improve performance.               
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels, including senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and teach Lean Methodologies and Operational Excellence with a high degree of knowledge transfer and adoption on the part of the Operations Team.
  • Resilience and decisiveness balancing key stakeholder priorities and delivering on CI plans.
  • Location is Mississauga Corp office; periodic travel to site locations (up to 50%) may be required for training and/or project work
