Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator

Landmark, Manitoba
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health & Safety, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of Maple Leaf Food’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) programs.  This includes but is not limited to daily administrative tasks, assisting in the development of safe work procedures, WCB claims management, investigations, and training.
 
A SNAPSHOT OF SOME OF THE EXCITING THINGS YOU WILL DO:
  • Assist in the identification and reduction of Health & Safety risks and hazards
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in the development of corrective actions
  • Maintain OHS metrics, new hire orientation, hearing test data and SCBA equipment inspection
  • Design and deliver training programs for employees and Safety Committee members to comply with legislative requirements
  • Ensure documentation is logged and filed for quick reference
  • Assist in facilitation of the OHS Training Matrix, make recommendations on what training to complete, and assist in organizing training with internal or external vendors
  • Assist with WCB file management
  • Meeting regulatory filing and reporting requirements
  • Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Some travel may be required on a periodic basis
  
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
  • Mandatory post-secondary education in health and safety (diploma or certificate program)
  • 1-3 years of experience in health and safety
  • Knowledge of health and safety laws and legislation
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory training of all personnel working onsite
  • Meeting regulatory filing and reporting requirements (OHS related)
  • Maintain positive relations with employees
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management, organization and analytical skills
  • Computer skills – Strong proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required
  • Must be extremely organized and a self-starter; able to work with limited supervision
