The Senior VMI Analyst is responsible for managing a customer’s distribution center inventory in order to support store outbound shipments. The Senior VMI Analyst manages the full customer VMI procurement customer relationship and works with cross-functional peers to determine the required customer order requirements and execute the customer order to delivery process.  This individual will be responsible for identifying and leading cost and service improvements related to VMI and the customers supply chain through enhancement of both technical and operational processes, as well as collaboration directly with the customer’s supply chain management team.


  • Manage inventory levels taking into account both baseline and feature activities
  • Work collaboratively with the MLF Demand Planning team on achieving a jointly aligned forecast with the customer.
  • Act as the VMI expert with the customer by forging strong partnerships with the customer’s procurement and merchandising teams, gaining insight into how their replenishment systems and processes function, so that insight can be provided as needed to the Maple Leaf Foods organization regarding anticipated customer behaviour.
  • Create customer replenishment orders that align to MLF’s Order Policy, including Efficient Replenishment Policy elements such as truckload building, minimum order quantity, unitization & delivery management
  • Accountable for identifying and leading cost and service improvements related to VMI and the customers supply chain through enhancement of both technical and operational processes
  • Key contact for customer Buyer and responsible for all day-to-day order management activities, logistics and inventory flow challenges with assigned account(s)
  • Provide insight into any major order to forecast variances in the consensus process by collaborating with Demand Planning, Sales and Customer Merchandising.
  • Proactively highlight excess inventory levels for Sales and hold them accountable to create a sell through plan to mitigate distress sales.
  • Lead planning, customer communication and facilitate new launch or rationalization plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate risk of execution against key promotional activity with customer
  • Manage requests for customer claims, returns and refusals.
Provide root cause and corrective action plans on excess inventory write-offs.
  • Drive continuous process improvement within all VMI accounts.




Ensure outbound store fill rate targets are achieved while maximizing customer inventory turns.
SPOC for customer buyers and team managers for order management escalation
Meet or excess cost targets associated with distressed sales while exceeding all related KPI’s
Own sku portfolio recommendations based on velocity and inventory management costs.
Develop and maintain customer profiles and specific SOP’s.
Maintain specific department or customer objectives for the assigned account
Responsible for the customer relationship for assigned key account(s).
Ensure that inventory allocations are executed accurately outlining customer overdraws to forecast
Communicate major supply outages to the customer


  •  Post-secondary education
  •  7-10 years of demand forecasting and inventory management experience
  •  3-5 years of managing VMI related activities
  •  Previous experience negotiating and collaborating with the manager and director level at the customer
  •  Strong analytical skills driving solution based actions
  •  Outstanding influential leadership skills.  Ability to lead and move initiatives forward.
  •  Excellent ability to develop and maintain cross functional internal and external relationships
  •  Strong communication skills - written and verbal (one-on-one and in groups)
  •  Effective negotiation skills
  •  Self-motivated team player - able to be pro-active and work with minimal supervision
  •  System Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills; experience in SAP is an asset
  •  Bilingual (English/French) is an asset, however may be required
  •  Strong alignment with Maple Leaf’s Values
