POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the corporate financial reporting team the Senior Financial Analyst, Technical Accounting will report to the Manager, Technical Accounting.  The individual will be the process owner for pension, financial instruments, and other financial statement areas and will assist with the quarterly financial statement preparation in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”). This position may also be involved in the implementation of IFRS 16 Leases and analysis and implementation of new standards as they arise.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the implementation of new IFRS standards including IFRS 16;
  • Review and update accounting policies to ensure consistent application of IFRS requirements across the organization;
  • Research accounting issues as required and draft position papers providing recommendations to finance management;
  • Researching Ontario Security Comissions regulatory developments and analyzing the impact to the Company’s external reporting;
  • Process owner for various technical accounting topics on an ongoing basis (e.g. pension & financial instruments processes);
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly financial statements and liase with external and internal auditors as required;
  • Assist in annual budget process for pension and restructuring;
  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations;
  • Participate in ad hoc projects as required
 
  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Possesses a Professional Accounting designation (CPA Designation) with public accounting experience;
  • A strong knowledge of IFRS, knowledge of pensions, financial instruments and/or share-based compensation is an asset;
  • Experience conducting research and preparing memos on technical accounting issues;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint;
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and manage competing priorities; and
  • Experience with SAP and/or BPC is an asset.
