POSITION SUMMARY:

Overall responsibility to support strategic growth with Wal-Mart by providing Sales, Marketing and Wal-Mart with effective business analysis, category development recommendations and shelf planning to support this customer’s unique business processes.  An expert in Wal-Mart’s category management business model, Retail Link database tools, space management software, and skilled at handling customer interface.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage modular projects and merchandising initiatives within the Advisor Categories at Wal-Mart
  • Monitor and analyze sales and share performance within Advisor Categories, utilizing an external scorecard.  Discuss all issues and opportunities with relevant Wal-Mart buyer(s) and develop action plans
  • Provide rationalization for merchandising recommendations and present to Wal-Mart
  • Fulfill all Category Advisor duties for relevant buyer(s), including the modular update/relay process, specifications and deadlines
  • Track and evaluate new item distribution and performance for Advisor Categories; keep buyer informed
  • Co-ordinate regular market pricing audits
  • Maintain and improve Retail Link functionality through characteristic assignment, fineline breaks and recommendations, category divisions, etc.
  • Uphold Best Practices expertise in MLF relevant categories at Wal-Mart, undertaking leadership initiatives for peer advisors when possible
  • Maintain working knowledge of market/category/brand/consumer trends; utilize the learnings in space management initiatives with Wal-Mart.  When appropriate share learnings internally
  • Partner with the Wal-Mart Sales Team to support account/category specific business plan objectives
  • Communicate ongoing any Brand/SKU issues and provide recommendations to Marketing and Sales
  • Provide feedback to Marketing, based on account strategies, performance and promotional analysis, to ensure annual promotional and trade programs consider account needs and class of trade needs
  • Stay field informed and recommend any space management technology changes, new platform investments and/or training opportunities in order to keep department resources competitive and well aligned with the retail environment
 
  EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
  • 3-5 years experience in a CPG environment; 2+ years direct Wal-Mart experience
  • University degree (preferred), College diploma or certificate in business
  • Expert use of space and category management software programs, concepts and analytical techniques and a thorough understanding of syndicated data sources and consumer purchase behavior
  • Extended experience building databases using space management software; also experience in MS Office, with emphasis on advanced Excel skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of Nielsen Answers Desktop and Wal-Mart’s Retail Link
  • Solid analytical and presentation skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure to prioritize the requirements of several internal and external customers and handle urgent deadlines
  • This is a highly independent position and is largely separated from the sales force due to privileged confidentiality; therefore a candidate can only be successful in this role if he or she is used to and adept at working in a stand-alone position and able to work efficiently and highly productively as an individual contributor
