POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Transportation team, this position will be responsible for developing the most efficient and cost-effective daily plan out of the Eastern Distribution Centre. This must occur within the framework of delivering results in a timely fashion to maintain shipping efficiencies while ensuring customer needs are met.  The role requires numerous daily decisions that must align with financial budgets. This position must operate with little direct supervision to manage shipments departing from our Eastern plants and DC’s.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitoring and reporting of our shipments in transit and on-time delivery to customers.
  • Creation of cost effective daily route plan that must be focused on cost effectiveness and customer (both internal and external) satisfaction in a very fast-paced make-to-order environment.
  • Communicating and directing, with various carriers, the “Daily Route Plan” to ensure carriers are notified of pick up times, PO #’s and delivery appointments.
  • Constant communication with the Sales, Production Planning, Customer Supply Chain and the manufacturing Shipping departments throughout the day to ensure that product availability supports the “Daily Route Plan”.
  • Liaising with carriers to ensure delivery routes exist to help deliver the most cost effective “Daily Route Plans”.
  • Assist the Dispatch and Planning Supervisor with Period End Variance Reporting.
  • Generating reports and analysis to support continuous improvement and identify ongoing cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with both customer and carrier claims.
  • Provide vacation coverage for to our Western Transportation team as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  POSITION OUTCOMES:
  • As per Maple Leaf Leadership Hiring, this position shall over time, develop skills pertaining to further analytical & supervision roles within MLCF.
  • Deliver effective “Daily Route Plans” in a timely fashion to both 3rd party carriers and warehouses.
  • This position may require longer or adjusted hours of work when dealing with and / or over coming operational requirements.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three years experience in a Distribution / Logistics / Transportation discipline and / or in possession of and / or working towards a diploma / degree in a related discipline (Business Administration, Distribution & Logistics, PLOG )
  • Exceptional communicator and decision-maker, capable of successfully taking on several tasks at once.
  • Detail oriented and a willingness to exercise flexibility with short notice.
  • Geographic knowledge and understanding.
  • Functional knowledge of SAP and adaptable to new systems and processes.
  • General knowledge of Word / Excel/ Outlook/ Map Point. Access DB is an asset.
  • Must attain capability of operating from a Six Sigma perspective; particularly as to identifying and involving stakeholders.
