POSITION SUMMARY:
The position has the responsibility of supporting the Quality Assurance department in our Wetaskiwin hatchery on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will perform routine sampling, testing and record keeping to ensure our sanitation processes meet our food safety standards.  A variety of lab and in-plant QA functions will be performed on a daily basis.
Hours: 40 hours weekly, hours may fluctuate.
 
POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Chick quality & box count checks
• Egg quality checks
• Record keeping & SAP data entry
• Sanitation practices and monitoring: microbiology sampling, plate reading, reporting
• Chemical testing
• Candling & breakout procedures, scheduling and reporting
• QA documentation, monitoring, and verification
• Coordinate Moisture loss/chick yield testing
• Fluff sampling, scheduling and reporting
• Assist as needed for other projects within Ag Ops
• Assist with HACCP Program as required
• Assist with other QA tasks as required
• Maintain safe and clean work environment while maintaining compliance with established standard operating procedures
• Following Standard Operating Procedures, Animal Welfare, Bio-Security, CFIA and all requirements within the framework of the HACCP Food safety program
• Responsible for reporting hazards within the workplace as well as any incidents/accidents
 
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
• Post-Secondary Education. Could include Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or Food Science program.
• Experience in technical or scientific work environments.
 
PREFERRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Computer Skills: skilled user of Microsoft office applications
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Microbiology experience
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Able to work independently and in a team environment
• Good interpersonal skills
• Reliable
• Detail oriented
