POSITION SUMMARY:

Our pork processing plant in Brandon is currently seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and energetic individual ready to take the next step in their career.  This salary position is looking for a self-motivated individual to coordinate all aspects of the plant’s environmental aspects including the water, waste-water, environmental management system and regulatory reporting and liaison, with an unfailing ability to work with minimal supervision. Under the authority of the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief Engineer will assist in the supervision and controls of the efficient operation of the Power House and its related equipment, for the purposes of controlling refrigeration systems, steam systems, heating water, controlling HVAC systems, and all utility feeds throughout the facility.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with daily operations of the Power House & Waste Water Treatment Plant
• Monitor water testing, environmental spills and other logs daily and act and or direct the workforce as required.
• Maintain the plant’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and work toward getting the plant to a Tier 3 Environmental Pioneer status, working at being ready to step toward Tier 4 – ISO 14,001, should this become necessary
• Track Preventative Maintenance (PM’s), work orders and Maintain electronic & hard copy libraries of all environmental records for audit purposes
• Read log books daily, continuously update cost saving spreadsheets and develop SOP’s
• Maintain/Monitor all systems to keep the plant in compliance with all Federal, Provincial, & Corporate Environmental regulations
• Establish & maintain records of all waste streams from the plant and identify any that may be recyclable
• Establish, run and organize monthly safety meetings, energy teams and assigned projects
• Enforce HACCP and CFIA regulations and ensure the Engineers follow the Operating Engineers Act.
• Daily payroll, scheduling of vacations and preparing work schedules for Engineers & WWTP operators and prioritize daily work activities with Maintenance when required.
• Effectively Communicates company goals, safety practices, and deadlines to team
• Provides help to management, including hiring and training, and keeps management updated on team performance.
• Compile & send a weekly environmental report to all the plant’s Managers & General Supervisors
• Other duties as assigned
 
 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have minimum 2nd Class Power Engineer Certificate
• Must be willing to obtain 1st Class Power Engineer Certificate within 5 years
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in a direct Supervisory role
• 3 - 5 years’ experience in Project Management
• Must be mechanically inclined.
• Experience working with little supervision.
• Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems; Natural Gas Fired Steam Boiler systems and PLC systems is a definite asset.
• Experience working with a preventive maintenance program.
• Ability to ensure the safe and efficient operation of a large ammonia refrigeration, boiler and pre-treatment plant.
• Able to perform tasks under tight time frames
• Being able to work to exacting Environmental and Food Safety (HACCP) Standards is required
