POSITION SUMMARY:


The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the management, development and efficient operation of the Maintenance, Powerhouse, Waste Water Treatment Plant, and Engineering departments that consist of up to 76 employees. Working as part of the senior leadership team, the Maintenance Manager must effectively and efficiently manage the development and direction of the business operations, by their team, to drive growth of revenue and productivity. Our 13.9-acre facility’s machinery must be operating with the maximum efficiency and output. With production of up to 18,000 hogs produced daily, managing breakdowns and having low downtime is a top priority that includes high levels of people management and managing capital projects within operating budget. With a proven track record as a Leader, the incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant services including cost control, safety and product quality.
  • Provide leadership for plant engineering team.
  • Apply project management methodology to achieve plant operating improvements and superior facility management.
  • Oversee operational support for the power engineering team.
  • Develop and manage annual Maintenance and Engineering departmental budgets.
  • Analyze current and future opportunities for cost saving.
  • Document and maintain standard operating procedures, user manuals and training materials.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with various government regulations and maintain all relevant documentation.
  • Provide leadership and vision for future plant expansion.
  • Able to effectively manage the balance between spend vs. likely downtime
 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mechanical/Industrial Engineer (P. Eng preferred), Mechanical Millwright License, or Licensed Electrician with extensive management experience
  • At least fifteen years management experience in a trade/ engineering-oriented function
  • At least ten years’ experience in a direct supervisory role
  • Working knowledge of ammonia plant operations including powerhouse support
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong project management skills in planning, scheduling, assigning, budgeting and managing
  • Ability to live and teach our Maple Leaf leadership values
  • Working knowledge of the following BPCS and/or SAP programs:
    • MRO function
    • Plant Maintenance Function (Work Orders, Equipment Tracking, Preventative Maintenance)
