The Finance Analyst is a key member of the Agricultural Operations – Poultry Finance team.  With a strong professional and technical background, the FC provides analytical and financial expertise through monthly reporting and variance analysis, optimization of hatchery systems, and compliance to financial policies and procedures.  The FA will play a key role in the budget and forecast process and perform ongoing analysis of results versus budget.  This position is an excellent opportunity to gain detailed insight into Canadian Supply Management and industry issues impacting hatchery, breeder farms and broiler procurement for Maple Leaf Foods.


  • Contribute to developing standardized business processes and financial performance metrics
  • Provide standard cost revisions to Head Office for approval and entry into SAP system that is necessary to maintaining an accurate costing system.
  • Backup for Hatching Egg Producer regulatory payments and Weekly Sales Analysis
  • Complete and submit weekly vitals on a timely basis
  • Complete daily/weekly/monthly labour reporting
  • Analyzes and balances daily yield report for hatchery
  • Analyze hatch results and product mix
  • Calculate operational variances from standard and budget on a weekly and monthly basis and Provide explanations for variances to Plant Manager, Production Manager and Finance Manager
  • Supports inventory counts packaging & vaccines; works with operations to ensure any adjustments are accurate. 
  • Support all daily, weekly and period-end financial activities for the Agricultural Operations and National Procurement.
  • Perform periodic analysis of overhead spending and provide management with the information required to make future spending decisions
  • Ensure compliance with C3 in relation to Journal entries and GL account reconciliations. Complete month end procedures at the plant level (i.e. Journals, B/S reconciliations)
  • Support the Quarterly C3 Testing and Remediation for Inventory Controls
  • Support Annual Budget and Forecast
  • Ensure adherence to tight month-end schedule, prepare month-end journal entries and do the reconciliations as needed
  • Will conduct ad hoc analysis as required to improve business performance
  • Actively build Six Sigma skills by identifying, developing and recommending improvements that will eliminate non-value-added work, create efficiencies, uncover cost savings and improve internal controls


The successful candidate will be results-oriented, thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment, and have the ability to develop positive working relationships with all employees.
Candidates must have:
  • Post secondary education in a finance/business related program required
  • Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of progressive manufacturing costing experience in SAP, BPCS or ERP environment
  • Strong problem solving and continuous improvement skills
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills plus the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial functions
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office
  • Ability to prioritize work and managing changing/conflicting priorities
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and provide/recommend solutions
