Position Summary
The Hatcher Sanitation is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of hatchery operations. This position supports the health and welfare of poultry by ensuring all hatchery equipment and environments meet sanitation standards outlined in the CFIA Hatchery Preventive Control Plan and the NFACC Code of Practice while maintaining high standards of animal welfare.

The Hatcher Sanitation is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of hatchery operations. This position supports the health and welfare of poultry by ensuring all hatchery equipment and environments meet sanitation standards outlined in the CFIA Hatchery Preventive Control Plan and the NFACC Code of Practice while maintaining high standards of animal welfare.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize the Hatcher Room, hatching machines, tops, and overhead areas daily prior to egg transfer, following the seven-step sanitation process to prevent cross-contamination.
- Clean and sanitize the Hatcher Exhaust Tunnel to maintain optimal air quality during the hatching process.
- Safely mix, dispense, and apply cleaning and disinfecting chemicals at recommended concentrations.
- Check for live animals before sanitation and perform humane euthanasia of embryos or chicks when necessary.
- Assist with the receiving of imported chicks by ensuring proper sanitation procedures are completed post-grading to prevent the spread of Salmonella and other pathogens.
- Assist in moving Hatcher Baskets in stacks to prepare for the transfer process.
- Prepare for pre-op checks and take action as needed.
- Adhere to Maple Leaf Foods AgOps Biosecurity Policy and Personal Hygiene Program at all times.
- $21.40 - $22.40 per hour (based on progression)
- Ability to work flexible hours until tasks are completed
- Physically capable of standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs repetitively, and working at heights. Must be comfortable working in conditions that may involve strong odours, noise, wet surfaces and humidity.
- Able to follow SOPs, sanitation schedules, and health & safety protocols
- Must adhere to PCP, WHIMS and CFIA standards
- No formal education required; on-the-job training provided
