The Opportunity:
As a part of Maple Leaf Food’s Finance team, the Senior Finance Analyst partners closely with Supply Chain, Transportation, Distribution and Finance teams to provide financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, and decision support related to freight, storage, and overall supply chain costs. The role focuses on monitoring financial performance, identifying variances, assessing risks and opportunities, and supporting cost-saving initiatives through data-driven insights and cross-functional collaborationAny MLF team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by July 23. Compensation: $71,000 - $103,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive
The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Lead the month-end close process for Prepared Foods (PF) Freight & Storage (Canada & US), including the preparation of accruals, journal entries, reconciliations, and accurate financial reporting. Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports with detailed budget-to-actual, forecast-to-actual, and forecast-to-forecast variance analysis and commentary.
- Perform comprehensive financial analysis by identifying operational and financial drivers, investigating variances, evaluating trends, and providing actionable insights and recommendations to support management decision-making.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning for transportation and warehousing costs.
- Partner with Supply Chain Operations to analyze cost drivers, including freight and storage rates, utilization, fuel surcharges, network optimization, and inventory movement.
- Lead the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes by challenging assumptions, validating operational inputs, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to freight, warehousing, and logistics costs, providing analytical insights to improve operational and financial performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, monitor, and measure cost-saving initiatives, providing financial analysis and performance tracking to ensure achievement of operational and financial targets.
- Drive continuous improvement of financial reporting processes by automating reports, improving data quality, and enhancing forecasting accuracy.
- Prepare ad-hoc reports, analyses and other duties as assigned to support strategic decision-making
What You’ll Bring:
- Post-secondary education in a Finance / Accounting related program is required.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in Finance, FP&A, or Supply Chain Finance within an ERP environment (SAP preferred).
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, standard costing, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Proven experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement analysis.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex financial data and identify root causes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
