Distribution Supervisor

 The Opportunity:

Working under the direction of the Senior Shipping Supervisor, the Distribution Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising employees within the shipping and order processing functions to ensure the efficient, accurate, and safe movement of products. This role oversees daily shipping operations to achieve distribution objectives while maintaining compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. The incumbent is accountable for ensuring on-time departures, inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, and exceptional customer service within a fast-paced poultry production environment.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Lead and supervise daily shipping and order processing operations to ensure accurate order picking, staging, loading, and on-time outbound deliveries.
  • Direct and coach employees in safe equipment operation and efficient workflow execution while meeting productivity and service targets.
  • Plan and adjust daily shipping schedules, staffing, and priorities to align with production volumes and customer requirements.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and verification of shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, manifests, and packing slips.
  • Oversee export and cross-border shipments, ensuring compliance with CFIA and U.S. (USDA/FDA) regulatory requirements.
  •  Coordinate with Production, Distribution, Transportation, and external carriers to ensure smooth execution and timely issue resolution.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through proper system transactions (SAP), verification processes, and shipping controls.
  •  Monitor team performance, manage attendance, and address employee relations matters, including investigations and discipline.
  • Promote a strong safety and food safety culture, ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety, HACCP, and CFIA standards.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall service levels.

What You’ll Bring:

  •  A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a unionized transportation, distribution, or food production environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in food processing, supply chain, engineering technology, or business management
  • Strong understanding of shipping, transportation, and export documentation processes, including cross-border (Canada–U.S.) shipments
  • Knowledge of U.S. regulatory requirements (USDA/FDA), export compliance, and customs documentation
  • Experience preparing and verifying export documentation, including CFIA and U.S. import/export requirements
  • Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems
  • Knowledge of HACCP, CFIA, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral; confident, decisive, and able to resolve conflict effectively
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, results-driven environment
