Maintenance Planner

 The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Planner  plays a key role in managing and coordinating Work Management activities. The Planner develops comprehensive maintenance job plans that facilitate the safe and effective execution of work. Develops timely schedules of the comprehensive job plans, ensuring the maximum use of maintenance manpower, availability of parts and minimized interruption to Production. The Planner must understand the concept of ’Doing the right work at the right time for the right reasons.’ The Planner is experienced and trained in planning and scheduling techniques, is a capable CMMS system and MS Office User and familiar with applying Standard Operating Procedures in his/her work. The Planner follows company policies, standards and guidelines as they apply to all activities.

The Planner is an experienced Maintenance Planning and Scheduling Specialist with at least 5 years of experience in applying proven Maintenance best practices in an industrial environment.  

The Planner has strong leadership and communication skills, works well in a team environment, is responsible and reliable, and is open to change. The person is very organized, structured, results oriented and quality driven.

Planning Responsibilities:
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe working environment through compliance with MFL. Health & Safety Program
  • Backlog management, including weekly and monthly backlog reviews, purging aged work orders as required
  • Conversion of the output of maintenance program development to structured work templates
  • Scoping jobs as necessary to include:  All necessary job steps, required tooling, drawings and diagrams, parts, manpower, and safety elements to be addressed
  • Determining the required parts on each work order in the backlog; verifying parts are available and ordering parts as necessary
  • Coordinating with procurement to generate material purchase orders and agreed delivery dates
  • Determining the need for special support equipment and orders/schedules as necessary
  • Determining the work order planned start date        
  • Controlling work orders to the 'Approved' status
  • Maintaining and updating work order / event templates
  • Forecasting and maintaining fleet and component hours
  • Utilizing Condition Based Monitoring Reliability data  
  • Implementing Demonstrated Best Planning Practices
  • Planning and coordinating equipment commissions/decommissions
  • Review completed PMs and update agreed changes to parts list and tasks
  • Review Condition Based Monitoring task lists and update agreed changes
  • Tracking and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):  
  • Backlog hours
  • % PM Interval Compliance
  • Availability %
Scheduling Responsibilities:
  • Verifying resource requirements and availability before scheduling planned work
  • Verifying work orders are in the appropriate status
  • Generating a complete 14-day schedule
  • Reviewing the 14-day schedule with Maintenance leaders to refine details surrounding current conditions
  • Reviewing the 14-day schedule with Operations to incorporate operational concerns and limitations and modifying schedules accordingly
  • Releasing all work orders daily for dissemination to the maintenance leads and trades
  • Ensuring all identified resources are assigned to open work orders
  • Maintaining, coordinating and expediting the flow of materials and components for all scheduled work
  • SAP Power User
  • Interacting daily with Maintenance Leader to ensure schedules are adhered to and modified as necessary
  • Acquiring contract labor or equipment support as necessary
  • Review of completed work orders for recording of required data, planned vs. actual; hours, tools, materials, and safety requirements to identify any required changes or improvements
  • Forward required template changes to planner for updating
  • Tracking and reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

What You’ll Bring:

  • Demonstrated strengths in organizational, planning and resourcing skills.
  • A high school diploma is required and a journeyman's ticket, a related technical diploma, or engineering degree with supervisory / lead experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office functions particularly Excel, Outlook and Word, are necessary.
  • Previous experience as a planner is a significant asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, proven human relation skills and follow-up skills are required.
  • The ability to meet deadlines is essential.
  • Familiarity with the maintenance processes and system software is an asset.
