The Opportunity: 
The  Hatchery Night Maintenance is primarily responsible for executing the egg set protocol and overseeing overall hatchery equipment operation during the night shift to ensure optimal conditions to raise poultry. 

Some of the Exciting Things You’ll Do: 

  • Set hatching eggs into incubators according to the established schedule, supporting hatching programs.  

  • Perform 30hour chick hatching percentage checks to monitor hatch performance.  

  • Perform daily monitoring and troubleshooting of incubators, hatchers, and room environments to maintain optimal temperature, humidity, and ventilation levels, ensuring all incubation equipment operates within specified parameters.  

  • Respond promptly to hatchery and hatch room alarms, addressing incubation or hatching equipment needs as they arise.  

  • Coordinate the full eggset process, including egg placement, environmental verification, and documentation.  

  • Monitor and dispense formaldehyde as required for hatchery environmental control, following all biosecurity and health protocols.  

  • Perform general maintenance tasks related to poultry incubation equipment and overall hatchery operations. 

  • Maintain accurate records, including temperature logs, incubation documentation, and PCP forms.  

  • Maintain sanitary conditions essential for raising healthy poultry, including eggset cleaning, eggshell vacuuming, foot bath maintenance, and sanitation of ventilation exhaust pits and filters.  

  • Immediately take action in any animal welfare incident, including performing humane euthanasia when chicks are suffering, in accordance with animal welfare policies and training requirements. 

  • Adhere strictly to all biosecurity, health, and safety protocols.  

  • Complete all checklists assigned to the night maintenance team between eggsetting tasks.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support hatchery operations. 

What You’ll Bring: 

  • Practical experience performing as a maintenance technician in an industrial setting 

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with ability to troubleshoot 

  • Experience with automated manufacturing equipment 

  • Ability to work flexible hours until tasks are completed 

  • Physically capable of standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs repetitively. Must be comfortable working in conditions that may involve strong odours, noise, wet surfaces and humidity. 

  • Able to follow SOPs, sanitation schedules, and health & safety protocols 

  • Must adhere to PCP, WHIMS and CFIA standards
