The Opportunity:

The Risk Manager is part of the Risk Management team and reports to Treasurer.  As part of the Risk Management team, you will support the Company’s operating units in risk identification and mitigate financial risks within the Company using derivative contracts and through the Company’s corporate insurance programs.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Lead a team of Risk Management professionals
  • Perform market analysis on foreign exchange, interest rate, and commodity markets that will drive key investment and capital market decisions
  • Work with operating units to monitor the Company’s risk exposures and assist in the implementation of new hedging strategies
  • Ownership and accountability over the derivative trading lifecycle (trade execution, position and valuation reporting, confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, accounting)
  • Lead reporting on risk management activities, including regular updates to Senior Management and Board of Directors
  • Support the month-end and quarter-end closing processes and subsequent analysis
  • Support the preparation of the annual insurance renewal and support other areas of the Company’s corporate insurance programs
  • Support the management and reporting of the investment portfolio for the Maple Leaf Centre for Action on Food Security
  • Assist the risk management team with ad-hoc requests

What You’ll Bring:

  • You have experience managing or coaching other professionals
  • You have a demonstrated interest in financial markets and an interest in learning about corporate insurance programs
  • You take ownership of your work and are proud of your accuracy and high attention to detail
  • You strive for continuous improvement on all tasks
  • You are a critical thinker and can independently generate ideas for improvement
  • You work well in teams and have solid communication and relationship building skills
  • You are adaptable and responsive in a changing environment
  • Degree in finance, business, accounting, or other quantitatively based degree. Master’s degree an asset
  • 5+ years of experience working in Treasury, Risk Analysis, with derivatives, or in another quantitative and detail-oriented field
  • Strong understanding of drivers and trends in foreign exchange, commodity, and interest rate markets
  • 2+ years’ experience transacting in foreign exchange, commodity, and interest rate derivatives
  • Hold a professional designation (CPA, CFA, and FRM)
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling skills (VBA experience is an asset)
  • Experience using Bloomberg, treasury management systems, and SAP
  • Strong mathematical skills and an ability to grasp accounting concepts
  • Knowledge of corporate insurance programs is an asset
