Least Cost Formulation (LCF) Analyst

 The Opportunity:

The Least Cost Formulation (LCF) Analyst is responsible for managing the LCF processes and tools. These include purchasing/ordering all the RAW materials for the production, performing forward planning optimization calculations, follow FIFO for internal material usage to keep the inventory risk at minimal, creating formulation/blend sheets. These responsibilities require close working relationships with cross-functional areas to identify and execute continuous improvement opportunities.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Management of Fresh and Frozen Meat usage and review inventory by shelf life.
  • Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of daily meat usage.
  • Responsible for keeping  track of deliveries of RAW materials and communicate with the team in timely manner.
  • Create daily formulation sheets & update orders as required for Blending in conjunction with any production changes on the same day & for the following day.
  • Runs weekly production requirements for raw materials based on production plans.
  • Communicates closely with Procurement team to ensure plant requirements are met either by increasing or decreasing raw material orders.
  • Creates STO and release PO from (3PL) storage warehouses for raw materials according to the requirements.
  • Manages tempering raw materials in house.
  • In case of shortage of RM, re-formulate the formulations/blend sheets with available substitutes of RM on hand.
  • Investigation of any formulation loss of materials and implement corrective actions.
  • Maximizing frozen raw material usages in formulations where permissible and pre-blends when cost effective.
  • Measurable reduction in tankage of raw materials
  • Maintain control of all critical LCF data updates including raw material attribute values, specification constraints and raw material costs
  • Perform regular calculations (runs) to determine the optimal use of meats
  • Become a key user of LCF software (NC PROD) used in Prepared Meat side of Walker Dr. for cost efficiency.
  • Cross-training within scheduling and/or materials department to cover for vacations is required.
  • Role works during the day but may require occasional work on an off shift and on weekends based on business requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be results-oriented, thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment, and have the ability to develop positive working relationships with all employees. Candidates must have:
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma is preferred, preferably in business or food science, accounting knowledge is an asset
  • 2-3 years of work experience in similar role is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills – SAP, Format, Excel and Word
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced production environment
  • A strong sense of urgency and the drive to solve complex problems and drive efficiency
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong mathematical knowledge and skills
  • Strong analytical skills with intense attention to detail and insightful conclusions
  • Ability to learn complex software applications and leverage system capabilities
  • Ability to work across the organization to achieve co-operation from other functional groups and drive measurable results
