Director of Sales, Loblaws – Packaged Meats & Deli

 The Opportunity:

The Director of Sales for the Loblaws business acts as a champion and advocate for both Maple Leaf Foods and our customer. This role is responsible for leading the sales team focused on Loblaws, with a strong emphasis on profitable growth through business development, innovation, and strengthening customer partnerships.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

As Director of Sales, you will:
  • Set direction and objectives for the customer sales team, provide performance feedback, and make key business decisions.
  • Lead, develop, and support a high-performing team—hiring, coaching, and evaluating talent.
  • Build strategic account plans with the team that align with volume, gross profit, trade investment, and innovation goals.
  • Develop strong senior-level relationships with Loblaws, ensuring a deep understanding of their business and strategy.
  • Lead initiatives that deliver customer value and strengthen our partnerships.
  • Drive execution of the complete sales process—price negotiation, customer category management, forecasting, and joint business planning.
  • Bring strong category and product knowledge to conversations, enabling credible and strategic selling.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency, presenting value-driven solutions to the customer.
  • Collaborate regularly with internal partners across marketing, category management, finance, supply chain, and more.
  • Stay on top of market dynamics and competitive trends, integrating insights into strategic plans.
  • Travel locally and occasionally overnight to support customer engagement and business needs.

What You’ll Bring:

We’re looking for someone who combines strong business acumen with leadership and collaboration capabilities. The ideal candidate will bring:
  • A track record of consistently delivering results while managing profitability.
  • Strong understanding of the grocery/CPG landscape and relevant industry relationships.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to simplify complex challenges.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, especially when influencing or driving cross-functional action.
  • Proven negotiation capability, able to navigate tough conversations with resilience and tact.
  • A strong grasp of data and analytics, using insights to drive decisions and plans (e.g., Nielsen, ROI, trade investment).
  • An ability to foster relationships across teams and functions to get things done and build alignment.
  • Deep customer focus, able to anticipate needs, deliver solutions, and build lasting partnerships.
