The Opportunity:
The Coordinator, Planning and Dispatch role is an integral part of our Transportation Supply Chain team. This role specifically supports our Western region. Reporting to the Western Transportation Manager, the successful candidate will be part of a cohesive team and a wider collaborative distribution and transportation network across Maple Leaf Foods.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Monitoring and reporting to business partners and leadership regarding shipments in transit and on-time delivery to customers.
- Navigate and use SAP and TM software to plan a wide variety of shipments with different variables.
- Creating a cost-effective daily route plan that must be focused on cost effectiveness and customer (both internal and external) satisfaction in a very fast-paced, make-to-order environment.
- Coordinating USA and Canadian back hauls with other MLCF offices as required
- Ensuring carriers are notified of pick-up times, PO #’s and delivery appointments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Constant daily communication through email and telephone to resolve issues in transit, during pick up or delivery.
- Liaising with Sales, Production Planning, Customer Supply Chain and the manufacturing Shipping departments throughout the day to ensure that product availability supports the “Daily Route Plan”.
- Create and maintain SOP documents and Planning Schedules
- Cross-training within department to enhance skills, knowledge, and capabilities and to lead to better collaboration and coordination among team members.
- Cross-functional problem solving/collaboration on current and new business.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities, execute and track results
- Maintain ongoing working relationships with carriers to help ensure availability of trucks.
- Flexibility to engage in longer or adjusted hours of work when dealing with and /or overcoming operational requirements
- After hours support required on Domestic and US lanes, to be shared with the team on a rotational basis.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
- 3+ years of experience in a Distribution / Logistics / Transportation discipline
- Completed/engaged in a Diploma/degree program in a related discipline (Business Administration, Distribution & Logistics, PLOG )
- Exceptional communication skills with stakeholders of all levels
- Decision-making capability and a critical eye for detail
- Ability to manage several tasks at once and a willingness to exercise flexibility with short notice.
- Geographic knowledge and understanding
- Functional capability within SAP and adaptable to new systems and processes
- General knowledge of Word / Excel/ Outlook/ Map Point. is an asset.
