FSQA Coordinator - Afternoon Shift

 The Opportunity:

As a member of the facility's Food Safety and Quality Assurance team, the FSQA Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, ongoing review, and continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality Programs at the McLeod plant.  Operating with a sense of urgency, the FSQA Coordinator is responsible for initiating immediate corrective actions, positively influencing others and improving the Food Safety and Quality Culture, and escalating FSQA concerns as required.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Perform and/or assist in daily quality and food safety related decision making based on established processes to ensure products meet the quality standards and food safety requirements of Maple Leaf Foods and its customers.
  • Leads the day-to-day management of the plant’s complaint, hold and release, and non-conformance programs.
  • Perform daily monitoring and verification tasks as outlined in the HACCP system.
  • Provide training, support and coaching to hourly and salaried employees to maintain and improve the facility’s FSQA practices and procedures.
  • Prepare sensory samples and participates in sensory evaluations of meat products.
  • Perform data entry and data analysis tasks.
  • Complete regular plant audits to ensure plant programs are effectively implemented. Participate in external and internal audits as required.
  • Cross-trained in various FSQA duties. Perform microbiological, chemical, and analytical sampling for product and environment as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Actively identify areas for continuous improvement and take leadership roles to drive for continuous improvement.
  • Support to Black Belts and Green Belt projects.

What You’ll Bring:

  • University degree or college diploma preferably in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or a related discipline.
  • 3 years previous experience in a food-related technical role.
  • Strong systems skills (including MS Office).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Interest and willingness to learn and teach others.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently, eager to learn.
  • Flexibility in work shift is required.
  • Demonstrated alignment to the Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
