HR Advisor - Contract

 The Opportunity:

The HR Advisor provides Human Resources support in areas such as labour/employee relations, talent management, recruitment, performance management and all HR programs/processes. This position will appeal to candidates with a passion for problem solving, developing organizational talent and building impactful relationships with key stakeholders. Being able to manage a variety of tasks in a fast paced, dynamic environment will be essential for success.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Provide guidance, support and coaching to Managers and frontline Supervisors regarding Human Resources policies, practices and collective bargaining agreement
  • Assist and coach supervisors in determining appropriate corrective action, conflict resolution, and performance management techniques for their employees
  • Ensure the plant is in compliance with applicable legislation and corporate HR standards
  • Track, maintain and report plant-specific labour and employee relations data and metrics 
  • Track, record and analyze data as it pertains to manpower requirements, HR metrics, onboarding, grievances etc.
  • Partner with leaders to identify recruiting needs and play an active role in the selection process
  • Prepare and deliver/facilitate various training or development programs
  • Execute organizational development and change management initiatives
  • Ensure people movement (new hires, voluntary and involuntary terminations, promotions, transfers etc.) is flawlessly executed in SAP  
  • Investigate, resolve and track employee complaints and work-related issues
  • Handles front line employee issues and participates in the grievance resolution process
  • Represent Company in Joint Labour Relations meetings with local Union executive and representative(s)
  • Work closely with the leadership team and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Actively facilitates and contributes to plant initiatives
  • Actively engage and coach employees on Maple Leaf Values and their application
  • Recognize, support and commit to our Food Safety Promise and Leadership Values
  • Performs other duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years HR experience - including a minimum of 2 years providing generalist support
  • University Degree in Human Resources Management, Business or Commerce; Diploma in Human Resources Management; or related equivalent experience
  • Experience in a unionized, manufacturing environment would be an asset
  • Knowledge of HR trends, practices, and legislation
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal, and influencing skills with various organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated customer service focus
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with solid time management/organization skills
  • Demonstrated success and experience in consulting with managers on complex HR issues
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, problem solving and teamwork skills
  • Proficient use of MS Office Applications
  • Highly consistent personal values aligned with our Leadership Edge Values
  • Experience with HR Information System applications such as SAP
