Floater - Hatchery & Farm Operations

Location: 90 10th Avenue, Hanover, Ontario & Local Farms 

Now is a very exciting time to join the Maple Leaf family. Maple Leaf Foods is located in Hanover, ON, offering a remarkable work environment. We boast an impressive capacity to hatch approximately 900,000 chicks per week. Our operations encompass the entire hatching process, beginning with the reception of eggs from our dedicated farms. We meticulously prepare these eggs for incubation, ensuring ideal conditions to foster development. Once hatched, we take great care in delivering the chicks to numerous growers across the province, ensuring a seamless journey from egg to chick.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual to join our team as a Floater, providing essential support to our hatchery and farm operations. As a Floater, your ability to seamlessly transition between various tasks and areas within our operations will contribute to the overall success of our agricultural activities.

Responsibilities Include:
Hatchery Duties:
  • Working full rotation in the separator and tray wash areas
  • Support chick deliveries to farm operations 
  • Work with the sanitation team as needed
  • Receiving duties including inventory management
  • Work on the Inovo transfer crew when needed (Saturdays included)
  • Work in egg room on Wednesdays and Saturdays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Farm Duties; 
  • Handling eggs such as cleaning, sorting, collecting, and quality inspection 
  • General cleaning/sanitation of the work area 
  • Completion of required paperwork 
  • Ensure adequate requirements for bird health are met 
  • Monitor operations within the barns 
  • Provide day to day direction to employees
  • Training as required 
  • SAP Data Entry 
  • Other duties as required

Required Qualifications:
  • Able to work in a fast paced and repetitive task environment 
  • Have commitment to working as part of a team and safe work practices 
  • Able to work varying & flexible hours until job is complete 
  • Able to work in a wet/humid environment 
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Be physically fit and able to lift, push, and/or pull
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs. overhead repetitively
  • Adhere to HACCP, Biosecurity & Animal Care requirements (Training provided) 
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment as needed
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Leadership experience an asset 
  • Farm experience an asset 
  • Reliable transportation - must have a valid driver's license
  • Willing to work statutory holidays and an average of 2 weekends per month
  • Must live within 25 kilometers of the farm
