The Opportunity

Maple Leaf Foods is looking for a dynamic business & category marketing professional to join our team in the role of Category Marketing Associate. This role will be responsible for supporting the success and growth of assigned categories and will work closely with the Category Marketing Manager to seamlessly execute category plans to deliver business objectives. This position needs to balance creative skills with critical thinking, project management, and performance measurement.  The successful candidate will be someone who wants to build a career in CPG marketing with a track record of delivering success in category and/or consumer marketing.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

  • Work directly with the Category Marketing Manager and Category Director to develop and execute category strategies to inform annual plans.
  • Support execution of consumer-centric innovation including new product launches by acting as project lead with cross-functional stakeholders (product development, finance, revenue management, operations, packaging, graphics, & purchasing) to ensure successful, on-time launches
  • Consistently leverage data and develop insights from Nielsen and internal data sources to provide category share and financial reporting and analysis for the category, including weekly, monthly, and annual rhythms as well as ad hoc analyses
  • Analyze brand and category performance in addition to market and competitive trends to recommend suitable actions
  • Participate in budgeting process, annual planning and development of category strategies
  • Support sales and brand teams with development of customer-facing material such as category stories, product decks, etc.

What you will bring:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business or Marketing with at least one year of previous experience in marketing or category management role within consumer-packaged goods or retail grocery industry.
  • Proven track record in product commercialization from concept through market execution
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to anticipate potential issues, keen attention to detail and superior organizational skills.      
  • Proactive and performance driven, have a bias for action and be able to work under pressure in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • A strong team player with well-developed people and collaboration skills.
  • A creative thinker with a passion for Marketing and an appetite to learn.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Nielsen Answers, Numerator and PowerBI preferred.
  • In addition to the following Competency requirements:
