Benefits Specialist

The Opportunity:
The Benefits Specialist will be responsible for supporting the overall administration of the company benefit programs and related processes across all business areas in Canada and US.
 
Working closely with the Total Rewards team, the candidate will be responsible for the delivery of our benefits programs through coaching and supporting participants, building internal-client relationships, and the administration of current/new programs.
 
 A snap shot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:
Benefits (Canada & USA)

  • Responsible for the general administration of the company Benefits and disability programs. Liaise with internal contacts and service providers to resolve claims, coverage and service issues and find solutions. Provide guidance and timely responses to escalated benefits and disability inquiries
  • Validates, analyses and prepares service provider billings for payment
  • Work with HR partners, Payroll, HCM and HR Services as subject matter expert on all elements of benefits and disability programs
  • Recommends and implements improvements to the benefits and Disability programs to provide an effective employee, HR and manager experience and to ensure organizational compliance with all relevant benefit legislation and plan provisions
  • Support and manage annual benefits enrolment project activities
 Reporting & Auditing
  • Provide in-depth and timely analysis and reporting on benefits and disability program utilization. Identify trends, develop dashboards and provide corresponding recommendations
  • Ensure administration of various Benefits plans (Disability Management, Eligibility, etc.) by HRS Team is performed according to guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Benefits information in the company HRIS system is accurately maintained. Lead testing of HRIS updates/changes for benefits items
 General Administration
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and support to HR partners and key internal stakeholders on benefits programs, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain SLAs, knowledge base documentation, employee booklets, educational materials, correspondence and relevant policies and guidelines
  • Monitor competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of the company benefits programs to ensure compliance with our total rewards strategy, policies, and practices to attract, engage and retain top talent
  • Maintain informational content of company “Benefits” site
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What you will bring:
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze statistical/financial data, understand cost impact to business and develop recommendations
  • Demonstrated customer service focus with ability to forge partnerships within the business
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to handle information with accuracy, security and confidentiality
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a proven ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and consulting skills with capability to adapt to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment for effective decision making
  • University degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of working experience with Canadian benefits programs administration (US Benefits will be considered an asset)
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred
  • Experience with SAP/Success Factors is considered an asset
  • CEBS or CHRL designation
  • Advance proficiency in Excel, Power Point and Microsoft Office programs as well as web-based applications
