POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Process Technology Manager position will appeal to individuals who enjoy the challenge of leading in the creation and commercialization of new and improved/modified artisanal alternative plant protein products. The individual will need to be self-motivated, team oriented, enjoy a fast-paced environment, dogged in their pursuit of the end goal and capable of bringing creative approaches to the resolution of the broad array of challenges with which they will be confronted. He or she must also enjoy both hands on and a management nature in the job, that will require involvement in both pilot and plant activities with team members. A passion for food science and technology together with that ability to translate theory to practice are critical.
To provide strategic process improvement leadership to the organization. This will include the development of process improvement plans that utilize best practices in product development, research and technology, and are based on understanding, anticipating and meeting customer needs.
Working with vendors to identify, test and support the commercialization of new equipment.
Leading the organization and developing the capabilities to best meet future consumer needs with innovative, consumer-demanded products.
Cultivate external resources and suppliers to identify new technologies, processes, ingredients, etc.
Execute and coordinate all new equipment and process improvement within Lightlife and Field Roast facilities.
Coach and develop Research Development and Technology team members.
Manage national product standards within all processing facilities to establish world class standards for consistency.
Work closely with Operations, QA, Marketing, Engineering, Sales, Finance, Purchasing and other functional staff.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Post-secondary education in Food Science, Nutrition or a related discipline
A minimum of 5 years of successive product development or related experience in the food processing industry
Excellent analytical, strategic, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Pro-active and performance driven individual
Must have a bias for action, be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Detail and results oriented
Team player with strong consumer and customer orientation
Computer proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
